r3d100011782 The National Map TNM Your Source for Topographic Information http://nationalmap.gov/ As one of the cornerstones of the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) National Geospatial Program, The National Map is a collaborative effort among the USGS and other Federal, State, and local partners to improve and deliver topographic information for the Nation. It has many uses ranging from recreation to scientific analysis to emergency response. The National Map is easily accessible for display on the Web, as products and services, and as downloadable data. The geographic information available from The National Map includes orthoimagery (aerial photographs), elevation, geographic names, hydrography, boundaries, transportation, structures, and land cover. Other types of geographic information can be added within the viewer or brought in with The National Map data into a Geographic Information System to create specific types of maps or map views. mtischler@usgs.gov disciplinary eng 2 Life Sciences 3 Natural Sciences 313 Atmospheric Science and Oceanography 315 Geophysics and Geodesy 317 Geography 318 Water Research 34 Geosciences (including Geography) 4 Engineering Sciences http://nationalmap.gov/about.html Archived data Databases Scientific and statistical data formats Standard office documents Structured graphics other dataProvider serviceProvider GIS Data US Topo atmosphere biology climate earthquake exosystem hydrography topographic topography wildlife U.S. Department of the Interior DOI USA funding non-profit https://www.doi.gov/ http://www2.usgs.gov/ngpo/tnm_tacticalplan.html# U.S. Geological Survey USGS USA general technical non-profit http://www.usgs.gov/ https://answers.usgs.gov/ Policies and Important Notices https://www.usgs.gov/policies-notices U.S. Geological Survey Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) http://www2.usgs.gov/foia/ U.S. Geological Survey Information Quality Guidelines http://www2.usgs.gov/info_qual/ USGS Data Policy https://hdds.usgs.gov/data-policy open open restricted other registration Copyrights https://hdds.usgs.gov/copyright-and-data-citation Copyrights https://hdds.usgs.gov/data-policy Public Domain http://www.usgs.gov/laws/info_policies.html restricted registration unknown ftp://rockyftp.cr.usgs.gov/vdelivery/Datasets/Staged/ http://viewer.nationalmap.gov/tnmaccess/api/index none https://hdds.usgs.gov/copyright-and-data-citation unknown yes FGDC/CSDGM - Federal Geographic Data Committee Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata http://www.dcc.ac.uk/resources/metadata-standards/fgdccsdgm-federal-geographic-data-committee-content-standard-digital-ge ISO 19115 http://www.dcc.ac.uk/resources/metadata-standards/iso-19115 Standards and specifications (http://nationalmap.gov/standards/index.html) are essential to facilitate the development and sharing of geospatial data and products. The USGS standards and specifications define the requirements to ensure that all products and data prepared by the USGS under the National Geospatial Program are consistent in accuracy, structure, format, style, and content. Geospatial data and products are available via the USGS Store, The National Map, The National Map Small-Scale Collection, and the Geo.Data.Gov websites. The National Map Corps volunteers are successfully editing structures in all 50 States, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Structures include schools, hospitals, post offices, police stations and other important public buildings. Volunteers collect and/or improve structures data by adding new features, removing obsolete points, and correcting existing data using a web-based mapping tool. Both newly collected and modified point features become part of the USGS National Structures Database, The National Map, and ultimately U.S. Topo Maps. 2016-05-02 2021-08-25
